Santa Paws

12/30/13

Hey guys!  Katie here :)  Santa Paws was kind to those at RuffRow!  The presents were loved by all.  However, Diva did not get why she got the crate!  At least now she's not taller than her crate!  Santa Paws got her a nice black metal crate.  We promised Diva that she will get a fashionable cover to go around the crate.  Phira went crazy with the two balls she got from Santa Paws.  Her favorite (at first) was the crinkly ball, but later on she decided she would try out her new 'Wubba'.  She loved Wubba.  She played with it all day!  The Wubba was a bunny with a squeaker, and she and Diva could tug with it as well!  Annie was happily content with her new bed.  She loves to cuddle with her people, and when she is not cuddling she's sleeping.  It's hard work being Annie!  Selena, our 15 year old Aussie, got her present early.  It is a runner for the kitchen.  She loves to walk in the kitchen, but she often falls.  The traction in her paws is long gone.  She is now able to walk into the kitchen easily!  The last present for our animals was for Cailee.  The dogs love to chase Cailee, so she's often far out of reach.  Her jumping skills are superb.  She never goes on the floor.  Santa Paws helped her with her problem by getting her a cat castle as tall as me!  It's five feet tall and cushioned inside.  Cailee looked at it once and walked away.  Yes, she walked away.  What kind of cat is she?!  She thinks she is too good for a castle?  That does not make sense.  Cailee is also a picky eater...  She only eats the cheap cat food from King Soopers.  That's it!  You try feeding her chicken, and she turns her nose.  All this talk about what my pets got for Christmas bring me to wonder what your pets got!  There are a lot of great presents and I want to hear about them.

Lizard Trick of the Day

12/30/13

Hey guys!  Katie here :)  It's time for a lizard trick!  We will be training the clicker, for it is a tool that many animals are scared of at first.  This is a training tool you can use in many tricks.  This is to only be trained once.  There is no need to practice the clicker.  If your lizard begins to become scared of the clicker, I would go over this with him/her one more time.

Clicker Training:

Supplies-

~ Treats
~ Clicker
~ Lizard
~ You

Directions-

1. Click the clicker and give your lizard a treat.

2. Repeat step 1 until your lizard does not even flinch away from the clicker.

3.  Wow, that was easy!  You have now clicker trained your lizard.

Finding a clicker is easy!  Go to a pet store, and they will most definitely have them!

Remember to train 3 times a day for 5 minutes!  Do not train any more than that, or your lizard will get bored.

Do not get frustrated if your lizard does not get the trick straight away.  It takes times.  With a lot of patience and practice your pet will learn the trick quickly.

Did you love that post?  If so, comment below.

Did you get a present for your lizard on Christmas?  Please tell us what you got him/her!

If there is a trick for a pet that we already don't do, then post a comment! We will try to make a post with that pet trick as soon as possible!

Cat Trick of the Day

12/30/13

Hey guys! Katie here :)  Are you ready for a cat trick?  I sure am!

Dance:

Supplies-

~ Cat treat
~ Cat
~ You

Directions-

1. Grab a treat and put the treat a good distance above your cat.  You want your cat to be able to get their paws on your hand, but not their mouth.

2.  Dangle the treat and wait for your cat to go onto his/her hind legs to get it.  Once your cat is on his/her hind legs give them the treat while they are still in the air.  If you cat goes back down before you give the treat, don't give it.  You want to reinforce the behavior of standing up.  You do not want reinforce sitting down for this trick.

3.  Repeat step 2 until your cat goes onto his/her hind legs quickly.

4. Once your cat gets the idea of standing on his/her hind legs, wait to give the treat.  Your cat needs to stay on their hind legs a little longer before giving the treat.  5 seconds is a good time.

5.  Repeat step 4 until your cat is standing on his/her hind legs for continuously longer periods of time.

6.  Now when your cat is once again on his/her hind legs start spinning the treat and your hand a little.  As soon as you cat shifts a paw, give him/her the treat.

7.  Repeat step 6 until your cat is shifting his/her paws at greater and greater distances.

8.  Now try to get your cat to do a full rotation.

9.  Repeat step 8 until your cat can spin with ease.

10.  Now right after your cat spins say "Dance".  This will be your cat's cue.

11.  Repeat step 10 a couple of times before moving on to the next step.

12.  Start saying the cue before your cat spins.

13.  Repeat step 12 a couple times.

14.  Great job!  Your cat is now a pro dancer!

Remember to train 3 times a day for 5 minutes.  This way you get enough time in the day to teach your pet a few things, but your pet does not get bored.

Do not get frustrated is your pet does not get the trick right away.  Every pet takes a different amount of time to learn a new maneuver.  With patience and a lot of practice your pet will be a pro in no time.

Fish Trick of the Day

12/30/13

Hey guys!  Katie here :)  It's time to get your little fishy to go to the top of the tank when it's feeding time!  We've taught your fish to follow your finger (if not please go back to earlier posts using the cloud to the right of your screen), but now it will go to the top with three simple taps of your finger!

Feeding Time:

Supplies-

~ Treats
~ Fish
~ You

Directions-

1.  Tap the glass of your fish tank three times then immediately drop some fish treats in the tank.

2.  Wait until your fish goes back to the bottom of the tank and then tap again and drop treats.

3.  Repeat the earlier steps until your fish takes longer to get to the bottom of the tank, because it knows its going to get more food.

4.  When the fish is once again at the bottom of the tank tap three times and wait for your fish to go to the top.  Drop in treats when your fish gets there.

5.  Repeat step four until your fish is zooming to the top when you tap the glass.

6.  You now tap the glass 3 times when your about to feed your fish!

Remember to only train in 5 minute sessions.  This way training stays fun, and your fish looks forward to it.  Train 3 times a day, every day for the best results.

Do not get frustrated if your fish does not learn the trick straight away.  It takes patience and hard work to train your pets!

Dog Trick of the Day

12/30/13

Hey guys!  Katie here :) How was your Christmas holiday?  I figured that I needed to do at least one more post before the new year!  I've been so lazy with my posting, so one of my new years resolutions is going to be post at least twice a week on Mydivapets!  I'll try my hardest to keep that promise.  Are you and your pooch ready for a new trick?  Your friends will definitely be awed by this cute trick!

Show Me Your Best Side:

Supplies-

~ Clicker
~ Treats
~ Dog
~ You

Directions-

1. Start with your dog facing you in a Sit, and click and treat him/her for staying.

2. After about thirty seconds or so, stop clicking and watch him/her closely; if he/she turns his/her head at all, click and treat.

3. Pick on side or the other to start with and click any head turns in the direction you chose.

4. When your dog starts to understand that turning his/her head is causing the click, it's time to delay the click by a few seconds to encourage him/her to hold the position.

5. Gradually increase the seconds by a few at a time until your dog will turn his/her head to the side and hold it for fifteen seconds.

6. Label the behavior Pose just before he/she offers the turn of his/her head. Repeat until command Pose causes the behavior.

7.  Congrats, you taught your dog Pose!

Did you love this trick?  Please tell us in the comments below!

Remember to only train in 5 minute sessions.  This way training stays fun, and your dog looks forward to it.  Train 3 times a day, every day for the best results.

Don't get frustrated if your dog does not learn this trick right away, because some dogs take longer than others.  If you are diligent on training, your dog will know the trick in no time.

Lizard Trick of the Day

Hey guys! This is Allison. I realized that we haven't done a lizard trick in a while, so right now seems like a perfect time for one. It has been months since we did a lizard post! It hasn't been since August since we did one! So, I welcome you a new lizard trick... roll over!

Supplies
Treats
Lizard
You, the trainer!
A LOT of patience!

1. Start by getting your lizard's attention with the treat.

2. Next, put the treat close to your lizard's mouth, but don't let your lizard get it!

3. Now, start moving the treat in circles.

4. Now, practice A LOT!!!

5. Before you know it, your lizard should start following your actions.

6. As you go, start using smaller pieces of a treat.

7. Keep practicing!

8. If your lizard is rolling over, try to use no treat, only rewarding your lizard if it gets it right. If your lizard doesn't like that, go back to practicing with a treat.

9. Is your lizard rolling over when you just make a circular motion with your hand? Well, congratulations! Your lizard has learned the trick, 'roll over.' Great job!

Please remember, this trick is quite hard, so it requires a lot of patience. Also, please try to train three times a day, for about five minutes each time.

Cat Trick of the Day

Hello everyone! It is Allison. Guess who hasn't been posting to much? (Here comes the guilt.) I'm SO sorry! Well, here comes a cat trick. Did you see Katie's last trick on cat clicker training? It is pretty awesome! It is pretty helpful too... hint hint! Today's trick might use it... hee hee! Now time for what you have been waiting for! Dun dun dun!!! The trick for today is... come!

Supplies
Clicker
Cat treats
A cat
Trainer (you!)
Another person

1.  Start by showing your cat the treat. Make sure the cat really wants it!

2. Start going backwards. If the cat follows, it is doing it right! If not, keep trying to get him/her to follow the treat.

3. If your cat is following you, you are starting! Click and treat.

4. Keep repeating. Someone else should probably be there to hold the cat while you get back into position to keep trying.

5. As you practice, say come. That way your cat learns the word. If your cat gets it right, click and treat as soon as possible!

6. As you practice more and more, start using smaller treats.

7. When you think your cat is mastering it with small treats, try doing it with no treats. If your cat gets detracted by this, go back to using treats. Maybe even make the treat size smaller. If your cat is getting it without treats, keep practicing! Remember to click and treat only when the cat does something right. Also include lots of positive reinforcement like pats and stuff when they do something right.'

8. If your cat is coming when you call "come!" well, you have done it! Your cat now knows how to come!

Remember, this process takes a while. You should only train about three times a day, for five minutes each. Also, only when your cat does something right you click and treat. Also include like I said earlier, lots of positive reinforcement like pats.

Did you know? That lizard contest for finding the Mydivapets lizard is still on! So, remember to send in some photos for the contest.

"Are there other websites by you guys?" you may ask. Well, Katie has other websites. There is mydivapets.yolasite.com, thesurprisinglycraftyme.blogspot.com,and  mostlyfantasywriter.blogspot.com. They are all by Katie, and they are awesome too, so check them out!
Plus, mostlyfantasywriter.bolgspot.com has another contest going on! You get to design your own book cover for "The First Wizard" by Katie, and the prize is a free addition of the book!

Do you have any questions about Mydivapets? If so, post a comment! We will try to get back to you as soon as possible!

Is there an animal that you want to train, but this website doesn't have it yet? Post a comment about which animal you want to have training tricks for, and we'll try to post some tricks for that animal!

Fish Trick of the Day

11/28/13

Hey friends!  Katie here :)  Happy Thanksgiving!  In honor of this wonderful day I'm going to come out of my hiding (sorry, I've been being so lazy...) and post a fish trick of the day.  Try to practice three times a day for 5 minutes each time.  It is essential to do that to get consistency, but do not tire your fish out and make them bored.

Hoop Swimming:

Supplies~

Hoop

Tank

Directions~

1. Wash your hoop and hands.  You're going to want to do this every time.  This is for the healthiness of your fish.

2. Stick the hoop in the water.

3. Be patient and wait for your fish to swim through.

4. After about 10 minutes of waiting use the trick were you get the fish to follow your hand and lead him/her through the hoop.

5. Get your fish to nip your finger (fish kisses) and then give them a treat.

6. Repeat the trick until your fish sees the ring and immediately swims over.

Dog Trick of the Day

Hi guys! It is Allison! Sorry I haven't been posting a lot ! I'm really busy! But here is part two of the last trick I posted. Think. What is the theme? I will tell you at the end if you don't figure it out! Now, get ready for part two... hide!

Supplies
Clicker
Treats
Your dog
You!
Dog Toy!
Hiding places
Make sure your dog knows the command stay.

1.  Start by throwing the toy. Your dog should go get the toy, but when it gets to the toy, command it to stay.

2. If your dog does stay, click and give him/her a treat.

3. Keep repeating this process, so your dog learns it.

4. Now have someone go and hide the toy, and make sure your dog stays there. Now have them tell you to look for your dog.

My last dog trick was seek, this one is hide... hide and seek! Now you can play hide and seek with your dog.  Have fun!

Remember, three five minute sessions per day work well for training because your dog wont get bored, but it will have enough learning time!

Also, we still need some more contestants for the contest to find our mydivapets lizard. Remember to enter if you can send us photos frequently and have a picture perfect lizard. Good luck!

Check out Katie's other blogs! They all are: mydivapets.yolasite.com, mostlyfantasywriter.blogspot.com, thesurprisinglycraftyme.blogspot.com, and katiesfantabulousart.blogspot.com. Plus, she has Facebook pages! The Mydivapets Facebook page, and The Life of a Writer Facebook page. Check them out!

Did you know we have another contest going on? It is on mostlyfantasywriter.blogspot.com! Go there and read some clips from The First Wizard, and then design a cover for it! Good luck! Also, I'm writing a story too! So keep your eyes open for it!

Also, we take recommendations! Tell us if you want tricks about a certain pet we aren't already doing.

One thing to remember... we have pet treat recipes as a section to this blog. Trust me, pets go nuts for homemade treats. Yum!

Spread the word about our blog to everyone you know! They will have even more fun in their life with their pet, plus your pet will learn many new things. Have a great day! Happy training!

Cat Trick of the Day

9/15/13

Hey friends!  Katie here :)  Yep, you read that title right!  We now have an official Cat Trick of the Day!  We had a friend request it and now here it is.  We're going to start with a really basic trick.  Well actually it's not a trick at all.  It's Clicker Training.  A clicker is a really useful tool in training, because your pet can hear it very easily.  You click the clicker right after you pet does the behavior you want correctly, but sometimes pets are really scared of the clicker.  That's why you have to train them to like it.  Once they like the clicker and know they get a treat after it they know that whatever they did was the correct behavior.

Supplies:

Clicker (You can easily get these at pet stores.)
Treats (I'd recommend the cat's favorite.  Cats can be a little picky.  I know my cat's favorite treats are Whisker Lickin's, so I use those to train Cailee.)
Cat
Yourself

Clicker Training:

1. With a handful of treats in your hand click the clicker and give a treat to your cat.  Repeat this many times.

2. If your pet is scared away at first when they settle down give them a decent amount of treats, beginning to ease down their nerves.

3. That is it!  Simple right?  Now you can use a clicker when training other tricks!

If you have a lizard Mydivapets would really appreciate it if you could send us some pictures to use as the star!  Me and Allison will choose the winner!  Enter for a chance to win.

Do you love Mydivapets?  Tell us below by commenting!  We love to here from you.

Check out our other websites: mydivapets.yolasite.com, mostlyfantasywriter.blogspot.com, thesurprisinglycraftyme.blogspot.com, Mydivapets (Facebook Page), and The Life of a Writer (Facebook Page).

Did you know at our writing blog we have another competition going?  If not, we do!  I am looking for someone that can make me a cover for my book The First Wizard.  The book isn't finished yet, but when it is if you make the winning cover than you get a free copy!  Enter for a chance to win the amazing prize.  Also, be on a look out for Allison's new book!

Don't forget to only train in three five minute sessions a day.  You don't want your pet thinking training is boring!

If we don't have a trick for a pet that you have please tell us!  We will get right on it and create a trick for your pet.

Spread the word about our blog to everyone you know!  We strive to make the bond between pet and owner strong and training is just one of the great ways to do this!

Remember that small treats work just as well as large treats, so unless your pet does something amazing try to keep the treats small so that you don't waste any treats!

Try making homemade treats!  Your cat will go nuts for them!

Happy training!

Dog Trick of the Day

9/13/13

Hey guys!  Katie again.  Today I'm doing another dog trick.  Are you ready to finish the trick we started? Lets go!

Supplies:

Bottle
Water
Dog
Treats
Clicker
Yourself
Refrigerator
A dog that knows the Touch command  (If you dog doesn't know this there is a fairly old post made by me.  Press the dogs tab in the word cloud 8th item down on the right hand bar.)

Get Me a Bottle of Water

Close the Door (dog uses his nose)

1.  Once your dog is comfortable holding the bottle in his/her mouth, practice having him/her target the refrigerator door with his/her nose.

2.  Open the door a little, give the Touch command, and click and treat him/her for moving the door shut even a little.

3.  Gradually leave the door open a little more and more until the dog is shutting the refrigerator door with purpose.  Remember to click and treat your dog for even small attempts to push the refrigerator door shut.

4.  Verbally label the behavior Shut the Door by saying it right after the dog does the motion and then treat them.  Repeat.

Close the Door (dog uses his paws)

1.  Use a paw target to get him/her to touch the refrigerator with his/her paws, than click and treat the behavior.

2.  Open the door slightly and tell your dog to paw the door; click and treat him/her for moving the door shut.

3.  Gradually open the door more and more so your dog has to push the door closed harder to earn the click and treat.

4.  Verbally label the behavior Shut the Door by saying that right after the dog completes the task.  Repeat.

Yay!  That's the end.  You taught your dog to retrieve you a bottle of water!  Happy Training!

Now listen up.  Mydivapets is having a competition to get a star lizard!  We want your lizard to be Mydivapets star lizard.  Enter for a chance to win.

Check out out other websites!  Mydivapets.yolasite.com, thesurprisinglycraftyme.blogspot.com, mostlyfantasybookwriter.blogspot.com, Mydivapets facebook page, and the Life of a Writer facebook page!

Don't forget to only train in three five minute sessions a day.  You don't want your pet getting bored and dreading training!

If you have a pet that we don't have a trick for please tell us!  We will get back to you as soon as possible and before you know it you will know how to train your pet!

1. First, command stay. stand behind a close wall, clearly visible to your dog.

2. Command with the word, come!

3. Keep repeating. Lets say, training has a lot of repeating. As you repeat, get farther and farther from were your dog can see you. Make sure it doesn't walk around looking for you. Make sure you are not to far though! You still need your dog to find you! As you keep going, slowly, change the word come to seek.

4. If you hide, and your dog comes automatically to you when you say seek, your dog should get it eventually. When they do get it, congratulations! Repeat until your dog can do it every time. Now your dog can seek.

If you have a lizard that is great in photos, enter it in our contest! We need a mydivapets lizard! Maybe you can own the mydivapets lizard! Just send us a photo. Me and Katie will decide if it is mydivapets material.

Thanks for reading! Watch out for part two! Happy training!

Dog trick of The Day

Hello dog lovers! It is Allison here. We are going to do some more dog training today. This trick will require the command touch, or target for your dog, so if your dog doesn't know that command, we have a really old post by Katie on the command, touch. I also want to apologize for not posting a lot of tricks. Me and Katie are very busy this time of year, so it it hard. Although, we have gotten a few posts up on our Terrific Treats area. You should check them out! Also, you may want to be notified that this is a pretty hard trick to get on command, but your dog will think it is an awesome trick, for it is fun. It also will teach your dog right and left a bit. Now to introduce.... Spin!

Supplies
Clicker
Treats
You!
A dog that knows the command touch. (It can also be called target!)

1. Start by having your dog follow your hand in a circle, using the command, touch.(Or target.)

2. When he/she makes a full turn, click, and treat!

3. Do this a few times, eventually adding the hand signal for spin. ( A circular motion with a pointed index finger)

4. Try fading out the word touch or target, and start replacing it with spin right(if your going right) or spin left(if you are spinning the dog left!)

5. Practice until your dog can spinning at your command and hand motion!

Don't practice to long! 3 5 minute sessions work! Also, you don't want your poor dog getting dizzy!

If you have an all-star lizard that is great in pictures, enter our contest! Send us a photo, because we need an mydivapets lizard!

I hope you enjoyed! Happy training!

Dog Trick of the Day

8/ 19/ 13

Hey guys!  Katie here.  Sorry about my lack of posting, but haven't you loved Allison's posts?!  I've just been busy with school and schoolwork, but now I'm back so no fear!  Today's trick is pretty difficult, but with a lot of work it will be perfect!  It comes in three parts, so technically three tricks in one.  Cool, huh?  Today's trick is (drum roll please)... Get me a Water Bottle!

Supplies:

Bottle of Water

A dog

Yourself

Treats

Clicker

Refrigerator

Strap

Getting Me a Bottle of Water: Part 1

Getting the Water Bottle:

1. Hand your dog a bottle of water and tell him/ her to Take It.  Click and treat your dog for holding onto it for a few seconds.

2. Move away from your dog and have him/ her come to you over greater and greater distances, so your dog gets used to bringing the bottle to you wherever you are in a room.

3. Place the bottle of water on the floor and tell your dog to Take It, then Bring It to you.  Click and treat him/ her for retrieving it, then gradually withhold the click until the dog is on him/ her way back to you.

4. Put the bottle of water on a low shelf on the refrigerator and practice having him/ her Take It.  Click and treat your dog for approaching, then taking, then bringing the bottle of water to you over short training sessions.

Opening the Refrigerator Door:

1. Put a strap on the refrigerator door to make it easier for your dog to open it easily.

2. Starting with the refrigerator open, hand him/ her the strap and tell him/ her Take It.  Click and treat him/ her for taking the strap.

3. Once your dog is taking the refrigerator strap easily, delay the click for an extra second or so and click and treat your dog for holding it.

4. Standing slightly behind your dog, call him/ her back to you while he/ she holds the refrigerator strap.  Try making him come to you much like a fetch, but without letting go of the strap at all.

5. When he/ she can hold onto the strap while backing up, click and treat him/her for actually moving the door.

6.  Gradually close the door until the door's almost clicked shut, so that your dog has to pull a bit harder to open it.

7.  Once your dog can open it when it's shut all the way, try letting him/ her retrieve the strap on his/ her own.  At first, click and treat any attempt that your dog makes to take the refrigerator strap.

8. Gradually add a little distance from the refrigerator so that your dog is approaching the refrigerator from greater and greater distances.  This helps your dog find his way there without your help.

9. Eventually delay the click and treat so that your dog is taking the strap and starting to back up away from the refrigerator to pull open the door before you click.

I know this is only two parts, but I'll get the next to soon!  I'm just tired from writing.

Lizard Trick of the Day

Hello! It is Allison. And are you ready for another lizard trick of the day?! Lets hope so. Now lets start with the basics of training. First, you want to male sure you are doing an okay time frame. Lets say, you are approximately supposed to train in three, five minute sessions.  Want to get started? Well... hang on! We need to announce the awesome trick! This trick is a glorious trick, which any animal can do with the right training... Target!!!

Supplies
A target, that your lizard can touch his/her nose on.
A lizard.
An awesome trainer... you!
Your lizard's  favorite treats.
A clicker.(Optional, although helpful!)
Make sure your lizard knows how to follow your hand

Target!

1. Start by holding the target in front of the lizard, and say target. You always want to start by teaching your pet the word.

2.Now, put some treats on the target. Something you can slather on, a bit sticky and liquidy is usaully a good choice for target training.

3. Hold out the target in front of the lizard. A treat is on the target, so your lizard will go for it, right? Well, it hopefully will!

4. When your lizard's nose touches, say appraise the lizard, and give it a treat from the other hand. you can even take a slight bit of the treat from the target.

5. Keep repeating step three and four. Gradually, keep wiping a tiny bit of the treat off for rewards, whenever your lizard's nose touches. Just make sure your lizard isn't eating stuff directly off the target. That is bad for training because the lizard starts to think it is just a food station.

6. When you do this procedure, move the target around in different places. This way, the lizard can learn new spots, and doesn't get attached to one spot.

7. Keep repeating procedure until your lizard it targeting sharply.

8. Is your lizard targeting sharply? If so, congratulations! You have trained your lizard to target!

Do you have an all-star lizard? Have you thought you could do something super cool with them, along with training? Maybe that something could be entering in Mydivapets contest! All you have to do is send us some photos of your lizard, and me and Katie can see if it is Mydivapets materiel! If so, maybe it can appear in the lizard photos on the lizard pages! Also, if you have a pet we don't write about, please tell us! We will get started right away! Thanks! Happy training!

Dog Trick of the Day

Hello everyone! It's Allison. And today I will be doing another dog trick. Well, I hope you enjoy! Remember about how long to train- three five minute sessions! Now to announce the dog trick... how to make them give!

Supplies
A dog that noes how to fetch, play ball, Frisbee, ect.
Yummy dog treats.
You!
Clicker( It would be helpful, but not everyone uses one even though it is slower!)

Give it!
1.Start by throwing your item, and having the dog fetch. A lot of puppies don't drop the ball at first when they fetch.

2.Start by saying give. Yes, the puppy is most likely not going to give, but you want the puppy to learn the word.

3. Carefully tug the ball from the puppy, and say give again.

4. Repeat the throw.  Then try again getting the ball back, without chasing the puppy. If you chase the puppy, the puppy will think you are playing a game! You really are trying to train!

5. When the puppy comes to you, repeat step three.

6. Keep repeating steps 4 and 5.

7. As you move through this progress, slowly start tugging less and less.

8. You know you have it when your dog drops it when you say give, without any tugging.

9. Congrats! You have taught your dog to give!

If you start getting bored, chances are your dog is getting bored. Remember the approximate time limits! Also, Mydivapets wants to hear from you! If you have a pet we are not posting tricks for, make sure we know! Also, if you have a good-looking lizard, can you please send us his/her pictures? We need a star Mydivapets lizard. Hey, your lizard could become a Mydivapets star! Good luck, and happy training!

Fish Trick of the Day

Hello everyone! This is Allison!!! And we are doing another fish trick! I am going crazy with tricks, I'm so excited I'm your co-owner, but that is good for you, right? I hope it is. Now to announce our fish trick... how to make your fish go up, without it following your finger!

1. First, start having your fish follow your finger down to the bottom of the tank. This way, your fish has room to go up!

2.Keep having it follow your finger up. As you do this, gradually move your hand farther and farther away.

3. Make sure your fish is going up sharply, even when your hand is moving farther away.

4. In the middle of your progress, start making your hand movements smaller.

5. Keep repeating step two and three and four. Careful though, you don't want to have your hand get to far away!

6. Eventually, you should be standing at your fish tank, making a flicking movement with your wrist, with one finger up.

7. Is your fish going straight up when you flick your wrist with one finger up? If it is, you have completed the trick. Congratulations!

Always train in approximately three five minute sessions per day. If you are getting bored, you time is probably up, and your fish is bored too. And if you have a pet we don't write tricks about, comment down below! We want to hear from you! Also, if you have a star lizard, it could be a Mydivapets star! All you have to do is send us some photos of your lizard, and me and Katie will see if it is Mydivapets material. Good luck, and Happy Training!

Lizard Trick of the Day

Hello, my friends, this is Allison! Today, we will be doing a fun lizard trick. Remember, when you are training, do it in five minute sessions, approximately three times a day. Supplies
A lizard that knows how to follow your hand without treats.
You, the trainer.
Yummy, lizard treats.
An obstacle that a lizard can scramble over.

1.First, you want to make sure the obstacle is safe and sturdy.

2. Now, you want to get the lizard to follow your hand. Have it follow your hand over the obstacle, and say scramble at the same time. If if your lizard goes around, put a treat on top of the obstacle, then try.

3. Keep moving your hand higher and higher up, and keep trying to make your actions get smaller and smaller. Keep repeating scramble as you do so.

4. Keep repeating step two and three until you are saying scramble and doing a small finger movement in the air, and your lizard is scrambling over the obstacle on command sharply.

5. Congratulations! Your lizard has learned how to scramble over obstacles on command! What a smart lizard!

Remember, if you are getting frustrated, your lizard probably is too. Now, time for announcements.
Do you have a lizard that looks awesome in photos, and seems like it could be a star? Send Mydivapets some photos. You never know, your lizard could be the star lizard of Mydivapets! Hello, my friends! This is Allison. And I would like to ask you this: Are you ready to have some more doggy fun?! You are? Great! Now lets get started teaching you dog how to... cross the street on command! ( Trust me, this is VERY helpful sometimes! I have had experience...) Now, lets get started!

Supplies
A dog that knows the trick, come.
Two people.
A leash. ( You always need a leash for dog walks!)
A treat for reward.( Optional!)
( You need to go on a dog walk, were you can cross on a really non-busy street.)

1. First, leash up your dog. You do not want to loose him/her!

2. Go on a dog walk! Make sure it is along a non-busy road!

3. Have one person walking the dog, while the other person is ahead,on the other side of the road.

4.When you get to the point where the other person is just across from you, have them tell the dog, "cross!" If the dog heads over to them, well, your dog did it! Give them lots of praise! If your dog didn't do it, well, no worries. Just have the person say come! Hopefully, the dog will go. Then give lots of praise to your marvelous, smart dog.

Still not working? Just repeat step four! Remember, a dogs attention span is not long! Keep that in mind. Well, congratulations, your dog knows how to cross the street on command! And remember, if Mydivapets is not posting tricks about a certain pet you like, comment down below! Also, remember the contest we're holding. If you have a star lizard, maybe it can be the star Mydivapets lizard! Send us a picture of your lizard. You never know if your lizard could be a future superstar! Happy training!

Fish Trick of the Day

7/ 22/ 13

Hello everybody!  It's Katie.  I'm going to be doing this fish trick of the day.  Make sure you only train three times a day for minutes each time.  Try practicing each of the three tricks with your fish one of the three times you practice.  Only do all three tricks if your fish knows at least two of them.  When we get more tricks and your fish knows most of them you can get a jar and put a name of each trick on one piece of paper.  This way before each session you know exactly what you're going to practice, because you drew it out of the jar!  This trick is going to be kind of like the one I did for the lizards earlier on, but with fish!  We've already got our fish following our hands with treats  (At least I hope so.  If your fish doesn't know this trick yet go back to it.  To find it go to the right hand column and go into the word cloud and press fish.) , but now lets try and get them to follow your hand without treats.  Now lets move on to the trick.

Supplies:

Your Fish's Favorite Treats
You, the Trainer!
Your Fish

Getting Your Fish to Follow Your Hand Without Treats:

1. First warm up your fish by doing this trick with treats.

2. Repeat step 1 until your fish is completely warmed up with that trick and is ready to move on!

3. Now take the treats out of your hand, but still act like you have treats in your hand.  Start doing the same trick as we did in the warm up, but like this.  When you're satisfied with your fish give him a treat.

4. I would normally use a clicker, but for a fish they won't really be able to hear underneath the water.  I guess your just going to give them a little more treats than you normally would for any other trick.  Keep up the same thing you were doing in step number three, but give them a bit more treats.  This way they know they're being good.

5. Repeat step four until your fish is following you hand!

6. Wow, you did it!  You've trained your fish to follow you hand without treats!

Please comment below if you liked this trick.  We love hearing from you!

Do you have a pet that I don't post a trick a day for?  If so, please comment below.  Allison or I will reply as soon as possible!

Do you have a lizard as well as a fish?  If so your lizard is eligible  to be Mydivapets new logo lizard!  If you're interested please comment below and we'll get right back to you.  All your lizard would have to do is look nice for your camera and then you send us the pictures you take.  You never know you may have a super star lizard!

Dog Trick of the Day

7/ 22/ 13

Hey, it's Katie!  Sorry it's been a long time for me to post this I've just been so busy working on the other Fish and Lizard tricks of the days that I just don't have much time to post a dog trick too!  However, I am today!  I love this trick.  Make sure to train three times a day for five minutes.  This way your dog won't get bored with the trick and just quit on you.  Whether your dog is praying for leniency after getting into the garbage or praying for some more mud to roll in, any dog looks cute performing this trick.  The trick requires your dog to rest his/ her paws on a table, chair, or stool and tuck his/ her between his/ her front paws.  He/ she can be sitting or standing when he/ she does this.  Today's trick is... Say Your Prayers!

Supplies:

Clicker (You can find hese online, or at pet stores.)
Your Dog's Favorite Treats
Yourself, the trainer!
Dog
Table, stool, or chair (Preferably start with a low object that won't slide too much to where your dog slips off with a hard thunk, so that your dog doesn't scare itself.  If you don't have a very good object for not slipping try putting it on a rug, carpet, or put nonskid material on the bottom of the object.  This is all for your dog's safety!)
Target (Yogurt lid, Peanut Butter lid, etc.)

Say Your Prayers:

1. Use a table, stool, or chair that won't move when your dog puts his/ her paws on the object.

2. Get your dog to put his/ her front paws on the stool by tapping the stool or luring him/ her with a treat.  Click any effort to get his/ her paws up on the object.

3. Delay the click so that your dog is putting his/ her paws up and leaving them there for a whole three second before you click and treat.

4. Using a yogurt lid as a target, get your dog to put his/ her head between her front paws by placing the target slightly under his/ her chest.  Click and treat him/ her for making attempts to touch the target.

5. Delay the click again until your dog holds his/ her nose to the target for longer lengths of time.

6. Fade the target slowly by clicking before he/ she actually touches it, or by making the target smaller.

7. Label the behavior Say Your Prayers as he/ she is performing the behavior and just before any other cues.  Gradually fade any old cues.

8. Congrats, you taught your dog Say Your Prayers!

If you liked this trick please tell us below in the comments.

Do you have a pet that I don't write a daily trick for?  If so, please tell me and I will get you your daily trick right away!

Don't forget about the contest Mydivapets is holding!  If you have a lizard and you would like it to be the logo lizard of Mydivapets please comment on any of our posts and we will get back to you as soon as possible!

Lizard Trick of the Day

7/ 22/ 13

Hey, this is Katie! How'd you like that last Fish Trick of the Day made by Allison?!  I thought it was pretty cool!  I must applaud her for her first Trick of the Day on here!  I'm sorry about the inconsistency in our posts, but we try!  Please remember to train 3 times a day in 5 minute sessions.  Today's trick is getting your lizard to follow your hand without treats.  I would want your lizard to already know the first post I made about training your lizard and that would be getting your lizard to follow your hand with treats!  Once that is great you may do this one!  If your lizard doesn't get it right away it's OK!  You're really training your lizard just to have fun.  To find my first lizard post go to the right hand column and press the little button in the word cloud that says lizard.  Well now this is the Lizard Trick of the Day.  Are you ready to wow your friends?  You are?  Alright, lets go!

Supplies:

Your lizard's favorite treats
Yourself!
Clicker (Explained in the directions below) (If you don't have a clicker go to a pet store, or look online; they're real easy to find.)
Lizard

Luring Your Lizard to Move Without Treats in Hand:

1. First warm up with luring your lizard with treats!

2. Repeat step 1 until your lizard is completely ready for the next step of luring your lizard, but without treats.

3. Take the treats out of your hand, but still act like you have treats in your hand.  Start doing what you would normally do with treats.

4. For this trick I have requested you to have a clicker for it is easier to train with one for this particular trick.  When your lizard follows your hand click and grab a treat to give to it.

5. Repeat step four until your lizard is following your hand immediately.

6. Congrats!  You've trained your lizard to follow your hand without treats!

Be on the look out about a post on the Park County Fair!  I'm sure you all want to know how great our little club (4 people) in Bailey did.  Here's a hint, we were pretty awesome!

Did you enjoy this trick?  If so, leave a comment.  We love hearing from you!
